Gorillaz announce first-ever shows in India

Gorillaz have announced their first-ever shows in India for 2027.

Damon Albarn, Jamie Hewlett and the band will perform at District Arena at Terraform in Bengaluru on 23rd January, followed by a Mumbai date at Jio World Garden in the Bandra Kurla Complex on 27th January.

Large parts of Gorillaz’s latest album, ‘The Mountain’, were recorded in India, in regions such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Rajasthan and Varanasi. Hindi is also one of five languages that are spoken on the LP, with a number of musicians from the country contributing material to the record. It’s expected that some of those figures, as well as other collaborators, will join the group for the two shows in India.

Speaking about the tour, Albarn said that “it has been and remains a dream of mine to bring Gorillaz in all its technicolour glory to India. It’s just the beginning and I truly look forward to the experience.”

Hewlett added: “Our dream has always been to do a tour of India. We’re very excited about returning to play shows in Mumbai and Bengaluru.”

The animated outfit have also headed out on a tour of the UK and Ireland in support of ‘The Mountain’, kicking off at Manchester’s Co-Op Live Arena on 21st March. Their first headline stadium show will follow at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 20th June.

In February, Gorillaz shared an animated short film based around ‘The Mountain’ to coincide with the album’s release.

Last summer, the group performed a selection of their albums live in full at London’s Copper Box Arena. You can watch the full performance of their debut album here.
