‘Hundreds’ of fish die in Ewell amid ‘pollution issue’

“Hundreds” of fish have been found dead in an area of Surrey, the Environment Agency (EA) says.

It said its specialist officers were investigating what caused the deaths in West Ewell on Saturday.

“We have sent water samples from Ewell Stream for testing, while Thames Water is increasing oxygen levels in the water for the fish that remain,” the EA explained.

Thames Water said it was aware of “pollution issues” in the area and was awaiting the test results to determine the cause.
