A murder investigation has been launched after a man’s body was found in the river at Victoria Park in Leamington yesterday (April 15).

The man, who was in his 50s, died as a result of injuries consistent with an assault, a post-mortem revealed today (Thursday).

There’s currently a police presence in and around the park providing reassurance to visitors.

Detective Inspector Gareth Unett said: “I understand this will be concerning for the local community, but I’d like to reassure them we have a team of detectives working to establish the full circumstances that led to the man’s death.

“We’re carrying out a number of enquiries including checking CCTV and will have officers in and around the park providing reassurance. If you have questions, please speak to them.

“We’d ask anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area from late Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning to come forward and share what they know.

“Finally, I’d ask people not to speculate online as this can cause unnecessary distress to the family and may impact our investigation.”
