ECA, which is shifting towards global campus delivery models as it enters its third decade in international education, will support Birkbeck’s India campus operations as the institute looks to “provide students direct exposure to multinational business environments”.
The partnership was formally marked by a launch and signing event attended by senior figures including Dr Vineet Joshi, chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) and UK high commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, alongside Birkbeck vice-chancellor Sally Wheeler.
“This partnership with Birkbeck represents a defining moment for ECA as we enter our third decade. It reflects our strategic pivot towards global campus delivery and our commitment to helping leading universities expand into high-growth international markets,” stated Rupesh Singh, CEO, ECA Group.
With around 20 universities now opening or planning branch campuses in India – particularly from the UK and Australia – ECA launched a new division, UniQuad, last year aimed at establishing “state-of-the-art” education hubs across cities including Bengaluru, Delhi and Ahmedabad, giving Indian students access to internationally recognised courses, qualifications and career pathways.

Birkbeck is among a growing number of international universities tapping independent providers for financial backing and the professional services needed to set up branch campuses and education hubs in India.
Like many other universities entering India, Birkbeck will offer business-focused undergraduate and postgraduate programs at its India campus, with its first intake scheduled for July.
The university, which will have its campus at Sattva Tech Park – a major technology hub in Bengaluru – with tuition costs up to 60% lower than equivalent study in London, is the 10th UK university to formally announce campus plans in India.
“By combining Birkbeck’s globally respected academic model with ECA’s proven track record in transnational education, we are creating a scalable blueprint for international campus partnerships,” stated Singh.
