myEARTH, developed by Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful in partnership with Northern Ireland Environment Link, connects schools, families and community groups with environmental activities through an online hub.
Users take part in “Action Cards”, which include litter picking, nature walks, bird watching and recycling, earning points as they complete each task.
The Weatherbies, an educational initiative created in 2016 by Maghera’s Yvonne Fleming, has reported increased engagement through the platform. The programme uses characters and storytelling to introduce young children to environmental themes.
Peter Fleming, Business Development Manager with The Weatherbies, said the partnership had helped reach new audiences. He said: “Joining myEARTH has allowed us to connect with thousands of children and educators who are passionate about environmental learning.”
More than 40 organisations, including the National Trust, Ulster Wildlife and RSPB Northern Ireland, are now involved in the initiative.
Alex Hall, Project Manager with myEARTH, said the figures reflected growing interest in environmental action. He said: “Time spent outdoors is especially important in early years learning, helping children build connections with nature.”
The project is funded through Dormant Assets Northern Ireland, delivered by The National Lottery Community Fund.
