Smoke came pouring from a property in Torquay after a fire broke out on Friday afternoon (March 13).

The blaze started at a flat in the Tormohun area and firefighters rushed to the scene at around 3.55pm.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the fire has been extinguished, as of around 4.30pm, but crews remain at the scene.

Giving a timeline of the incident, the fire service said further fire engines were sent to the incident just after 4pm.

The fire was confirmed to be in a third-storey flat. Smoke was reported coming from a window and the building’s roof.

By 4.30pm, firefighters had confirmed that all persons had been accounted for and a fourth fire engine was mobilised.

At 4.37pm, the fire service said: “Crews have stated fire is now out. Crews are at work with thermal image cameras to check for any sign of fire spread and hot spots. Crews are now naturally ventilating the property.”
