One of the most-awaited films of Malayalam cinema, Drishyam 3, is all set to release on May 21. The enterprising father-son duo, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak of Panorama Studios, will be releasing the Mohanlal-starrer in India (outside Kerala) and worldwide. Interestingly, they are also the producers of the Hindi version of Drishyam 3, starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran, Jaideep Ahlawat, Prakash Raj, Rajat Kapoor and others. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak shared what to expect from the Hindi version of Drishyam 3.
EXCLUSIVE: Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak open up on Hindi version of Drishyam 3: “It’ll meet ALL expectations”; explain how it’s different from the Malayalam version: “Malayalam film is an emotional family drama, while ours is a family thriller”
Abhishek Pathak, who’s also directing the film, said, “The shoot is done and post-production is going on. We are releasing on October 2, the famous date for Drishyam!” Kumar Mangat Pathak smiled and added, “Drishyam 3 is releasing on Drishyam Day!”
When asked if the Malayalam versions and Hindi versions of Drishyam 3 will be the same, Abhishek Pathak explained, “The part 2 ended at a certain point in both versions. As for part 3, it’ll flow in a different way. Culturally, we have made our film differently and it has been slightly tweaked to suit our audience’s tastes. The Malayalam film is an emotional family drama, while ours is a family thriller. So, though it’ll go a little differently, the core and the emotion would be in the same fabric. Once you see the film, you’ll understand the difference.”
Drishyam 2 (2022) surprised the trade and industry as it crossed the Rs. 200 crores mark. Is a Rs. 500 crores plus lifetime on the cards? Abhishek smiled and said, “I would not like to give any figure.” Kumar Mangat Pathak, meanwhile, answered, “Fingers crossed. People will be surprised. The way it has shaped up, I am sure it’ll meet all the expectations.”
Usually, it’s the big-scale, VFX-driven, action-packed films that do huge numbers at the box office. Drishyam is an exception – it’s a mid-sized film but behaves like a blockbuster at the ticket window. Abhishek Pathak explained, “It’s the relatability factor. Though it has a crime angle, it’s all done for the family. It’s what any father would perhaps do for his family. That emotion has worked massively with the Drishyam brand. Moreover, since there’s crime involved, it is edgier. Also, the way he outsmarts everyone in the system to protect his family makes it quite enjoyable for the audience.”
He added, “If you notice, all the characters are grey in the film. Yet, you root for Vijay Salgaonkar.”
