Man found dead near Albert Dock following reports of ‘concern for safety’

The man’s body was found as hundreds gathered for the Up The Mast challenge in Salthouse Dock

A man was found dead near the Albert Dock on bank holiday Monday. Emergency services were called to Salthouse Quay at around 12.15pm on May 25 following “reports of a concern for the safety of a man”.

The police urged people to avoid the area while emergency responders were at the docks. Hundreds of people were visiting the area due to the hot weather and also to watch a Red Bull event.

Ambulance services could be seen parked on the bridge just a few metres away from crowds watching the slippery pole challenge. The ECHO understands the emergency response was focused on a boat.

No cordon was in place, although emergency service personnel were seen throughout the crowd. Merseyside Police has now confirmed that services were responding to the non-suspicious death of a man in the area.

A spokesperson said: “This was a non-suspicious death and a file has been prepared for the coroner.”
