Loyalsock Township, Pa. — A casual dining chain restaurant that has been in the Willamsport area for three decades will serve its last meals on Sunday.
TGI Fridays, at 1840 East Third Street in Loyalsock Township, has been open at that location since 1995. An employee confirmed on Thursday that the restaurant’s last day of business will be Sunday, May 31.
No reason was given for the closure, but reports indicate that Quality Inn hotel, which the restaurant is connected to, plans to renovate in the future.
The closure comes at a time when the chain has been closing locations throughout the country due to a previous Chapter 11 bankruptcy. TGI Fridays filed for bankruptcy in November 2024, saying it was due to financial challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic and capital structure. As of November, the chain operated 79 locations, according to USA Today.
The website for TGI Fridays indicates Pennsylvania has just eight locations left after the closure of the Williamsport restaurant. The next closest locations are in Scranton and Wikes-Barre, nearly a two hour drive from the Williamsport area.
TGI Fridays was founded in 1965 in New York City. The restaurant’s menu includes classic American bar food and happy hour drink deals.
