The domestic football may soon be making way for this summer’s World Cup, but the 2026-27 Carabao Cup draw has officially been completed with fixtures released
The draw for the Preliminary Round of the 2026-27 Carabao Cup has now been completed. The domestic football calendar is now making way for this summer’s World Cup fixtures.
England face New Zealand this Saturday in their first pre-World Cup warm-up friendly. However, as the football world looks ahead to that, the draw for the Carabao Cup preliminaries was carried out.
As a result of the draw being for the early rounds, only four teams were in the draw. Those were York City, Crawley Town, Tranmere Rovers and Rochdale. The games are as follows:
York City v Crawley Town
Tranmere Rovers v Rochdale
The fact the draw has been completed nearly three months before the new domestic football campaign began may be a mystery to many. However, there is a reason why it’s been carried out at this time.
The Preliminary round was required as a result of the nine Premier League clubs, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Sunderland, Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace qualifying for Europe.
Premier League sides who are in European competition automatically move into the third round. Because of this, a preliminary round is needed to ensure 32 teams are in the Carabao Cup pot.
