‘Violence and disorder’ involving 50 people with weapons erupts on Stockton streets

Police are appealing for information after a violent disorder involving around 50 armed people erupted on the streets of Stockton last night.

Officers were called to the Elm Tree Avenue area of the town at around 7.20pm yesterday, Thursday, June 25, to the disturbance. Police are also looking for six people who crashed in a VW Polo and fled the scene.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “At around 7.20pm on Thursday, June 25, police received reports of violence and disorder around Melksham Square, Midfield View and Elm Tree Avenue. It involved approximately 50 people armed with weapons.

“At around 7.45pm a blue VW Polo is believed to have been in the area and crashed near The Avenue on Bishopton Road West. Two women and four men get out of the vehicle and fled the area.

“Enquiries are ongoing with officers appealing to members of the public who were in the area at the time and saw the vehicle and the disturbance and have mobile or dash cam footage of it to get in touch.”

Detective Constable Rhianna Wales, from Stockton CID, said: “Since the disturbance was reported to police, we have been conducting various enquiries to establish who was involved and the circumstances surrounding why it occurred.

“We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the vehicle and the occupants who fled from it, to get in touch. I’d encourage residents in the areas mentioned to please check their dash cam and doorbell footage and make contact with us.”
