Body of woman pulled from water in Bury


Emergency services descended on the water at the Island Lodge area in Tottington on Sunday evening

The body of a woman has been sadly been pulled from water in Bury.

Emergency crews were called to the Island Lodge area in Tottington at around 8.20pm on Sunday evening (June 28). Eyewitnesses reported seeing a large police presence on the scene.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said the force responded to reports of a body in the water close to Mill Street. The woman’s body was recovered and she was sadly pronounced dead.

The woman was aged in her 60s, the GMP spokesperson added. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

In a statement, a the force spokesperson said: “At around 8.20pm last night (28 June), officers responded to reports of a body in the water close to Mill Street, Tottington. Sadly, the body of a woman in her 60s was recovered from the water. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”

This follows two other tragic water incidents in Greater Manchester over the weekend. The body of a 15-year-old boy was recovered from Cowbury Reservoir in Stalybridge, Tameside, after a major emergency services operation.

In Salford, a second teenage boy was reported as missing in the River Irwell at the popular Clifton Country Park. The search is continuing there today (Monday).
