Five major box office records broken by Dhurandhar 2: From beating Baahubali 2, Pushpa 2, Jawan to becoming the biggest Hindi film opener ever

After creating history with Dhurandhar, filmmaker Aditya Dhar returned with its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, and the film is currently dominating the box office. Headlined by Ranveer Singh, the spy thriller has crossed the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide within just three days of its release. The film hit theatres on March 19 and has since gone on to shatter several major records, establishing itself as one of the biggest openers in Hindi cinema. While the film’s massive collections grabbed headlines, its performance becomes even more impressive when viewed in the context of the records it has broken.

A look at the five major box office milestones achieved by Dhurandhar 2

Biggest Hindi opening day ever
One of the most significant records set by Dhurandhar: The Revenge is the highest opening day collection for a Hindi film. The movie earned Rs 99.10 crore from its Hindi version alone on Day 1, taking its total India collection to Rs 102.55 crore. With this, it surpassed the previous record held by Pushpa 2: The Rule, which had earned Rs 70.30 crore in Hindi on its opening day.
Record-breaking advance bookings
Even before its release, the film had started rewriting box office history. Dhurandhar 2 registered one of the highest advance bookings ever recorded at national cinema chains. The film reportedly sold tickets worth Rs 38.77 crore ahead of its opening day, outperforming several recent blockbusters such as Animal, Jawan and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in terms of pre-release sales.

The strong advance booking figures indicated that the sequel had managed to build on the popularity of its predecessor and generate huge excitement among moviegoers. The special paid previews began on March 18, 5.30 pm.

Crossing Rs 100 crore on Day 1 despite hurdles
The film’s Day 1 success becomes even more remarkable considering that it faced technical issues and delayed screenings in certain regions. Despite these challenges, Dhurandhar: The Revenge comfortably crossed the Rs 100 crore mark on its opening day. Regional versions in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam also contributed to the overall collections, although the Hindi version remained the primary driver of revenue.
Biggest worldwide opening for a Bollywood film
On the global stage, the spy thriller set another benchmark by recording the highest worldwide opening for a Bollywood film. The movie grossed approximately Rs 240 crore worldwide on its first day, supported by strong overseas collections of nearly $9.5 million. With this, the film overtook the previous record held by Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. It is still behind Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rule, which minted Rs 274 crore in 2024, according to Sacnilk.com.
Fastest entry into the Rs 500 crore club
Within just three days of release, Dhurandhar: The Revenge entered the coveted Rs 500 crore club worldwide. By Day 3, the film had amassed around Rs 339.27 crore nett in India and over Rs 500 crore globally, making it one of the fastest Indian films to reach this milestone. It also surpassed Sunny Deol’s Border 2 collection.

A career-defining film for its makers
The sequel has turned out to be a huge project for both Ranveer Singh and director Aditya Dhar. Their previous collaboration, Dhurandhar, had opened at a comparatively modest figure, but the sequel’s massive Day 1 numbers have multiplied those earnings several times over.

With its record-breaking opening, massive worldwide collections and consistent audience interest, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has firmly positioned itself as one of the biggest Hindi film releases in recent years. If the current trend continues, the film is expected to set even more benchmarks in the days to come. Stay tuned!
