Sky News issues Harry Kane breaking news alert just days before Mexico game | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Sky News‘ regular programming was halted as presenter Samantha Washington informed viewers: “This is a different type of breaking news.” She revealed: “The Lib Dems have launched a campaign for Harry Kane to be knighted after his World Cup heroics.” This comes after England’s recent World Cup victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo, in which the captain scored twice after the African nation was in the lead with one goal. Kane triumphantly saved the team from an equaliser when he successfully kicked the ball into the net with only 15 minutes to spare.

Samantha continued: “He saved England’s blushes when they went one down against DRC, only to then score twice to bring England to victory, 2-1. “The party has tabled a motion in Parliament, and they’re calling for the England captain to be awarded a knighthood following that sensational tournament-saving performance against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday.”

The broadcaster added: “Arise, Sir Harry, we’ll see what becomes of that.”

Addressing the campaign, Liberal Democrat MP Layla Moran said: “Harry Kane has shown inspirational leadership and character on and off the pitch – championing the very values that make our country so great.

“If Andy Burnham wants to kick off his premiership on the right foot, he should back my campaign. This is about bringing the country together. I hope every England fan encourages their MP to sign!

“Let’s get behind the lads for Mexico on Monday, and let’s make sure Harry Kane comes home not just with the trophy, but with a well-deserved knighthood.”

On Wednesday (July 3), Kane gave his immediate reaction to the win and told the BBC: “It feels amazing to be honest, what a crazy game against a tough team, organised team.

“After that first hydration break, I thought we upped the level. Their keeper made some amazing saves. It was about… keep pounding the rock. Just keep pounding the rock.

“We spoke about how you can have hero moments, it can be any one of us. It could be Pickers [Pickford] making a save. For me, it was today.”

The footballer added: “When you get to knockout football, the pressure is higher, the risk is higher. From an attacking point of view, it was probably our best game of the tournament so far.

“It’s just about getting through; this one and the next one are difficult for different reasons.”
