Rare Rolex ‘Rainbow’ Daytona set to break records at First State Auctions sale

On July 19 at 8pm, a Sydney auction house is hopeful of celebrating the sale of the most expensive watch ever purchased in Australia.

First State Auctions is selling a collection of 28 rare Swiss watches, including high-end pieces from brands such as Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille. But attention will inevitably focus on one timepiece. Known as the Rolex “Rainbow” Daytona, the watch is an 18-carat gold chronograph with a multicoloured gem-set bezel, and it is estimated to sell for more than $500,000.
