India has celebrated a new export breakthrough after sending its first consignment of Areko cherries and Scentrose plums from the Jammu and Kashmir region.

India’s Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (Apeda) shared the news on 6 July, adding the development reflected India’s growing strength in exporting premium fresh fruits while enabling farmers to access international markets, realise better returns, and showcase the quality of Indian horticultural produce worldwide.
According to a report from the Times of Oman, the shipment contained one tonne of fruit sourced from farmers in Shopian and Pulwama districts and was shipped to Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
“Jammu and Kashmir has emerged as an important hub for premium horticultural produce with immense export potential,” said Apeda chairman Abhishek Dev.
“Apeda remains committed to facilitating market access for farmers through export promotion initiatives, quality enhancement and global buyer outreach. The export of Areko Cherries and Scentrose Plums to the UAE reflects the growing international demand for India’s premium fruits and will create new opportunities for growers while contributing to higher incomes through better price realisation.”
