Landmark Chambers is delighted to announce that Melissa Murphy KC has been elected Chair of the Planning and Environment Bar Association (PEBA).
Melissa succeeds Tom Cosgrove KC following her two-year term as Vice Chair. Her election reflects her longstanding commitment to PEBA and her leadership within the planning and environmental law community.
A leading planning silk, Melissa is recognised as one of the country’s foremost advocates in planning and environmental law. She regularly appears in many of the UK’s most significant planning inquiries, statutory challenges and judicial reviews.
Her appointment comes at a significant time for the planning professions, with major legislative and planning policy reform, increasing demand for housing and infrastructure, and continued focus on environmental protection and climate resilience. As Chair, Melissa will lead PEBA in representing the interests of its members while continuing the Association’s work in promoting excellence, collaboration and the development of planning and environmental law.
The elections also see several other members of Landmark Chambers continuing to play important roles within the Association:
Melissa Murphy KC said: “It is a tremendous honour to be elected Chair of PEBA. I look forward to working with the Committee team and PEBA members to support the planning and environmental Bar during a period of significant change, while continuing to promote the highest standards of advocacy, inclusivity and professional excellence across our specialist areas. I am very fortunate to have a terrific committee, comprised of talented barristers from each of the planning sets, not least my friend and Vice Chair Peter Goatley KC.”
Ben Connor, Practice Director for the Planning and Environment Team, added: “Congratulations to Melissa, Ashley, Jacqueline and Lord Carnwath on their appointments and continued contributions to PEBA. Their appointments reflect the depth of expertise within Landmark Chambers and our longstanding commitment to supporting the development of planning and environmental law.”
