Three people were taken to hospital after the collision
Police raced to the M61 and closed off lanes as a car was left crushed following a collision on Sunday (July 12). Three people were taken to hospital following the incident.
Fire crews along with police and paramedics were called to the collision, involving two vehicles, on the southbound carriageway between junctions three and four.
Pictures from the scene showed a number of police vehicles in attendance following the crash. One car involved was seen with a crushed bumper and was left badly damaged.

Greater Manchester Police said three people were taken to hospital from the scene. It’s thought they were not seriously injured.
Meanwhile a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just before 2pm this afternoon (Sunday 12 July), fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the M61 south bound between junctions 3-4.
“Three fire engines from Bolton Central and Whitefield, and an enhanced rescue unit from Ashton-under-Lyne quickly attended the incident which involved two vehicles.
“On arrival, fire service personnel dealt with two casualties who were assisted from the vehicle using stabilising equipment. Crews were detained approximately fifty minutes.”
