A colourful parade brought joy and devotion to the streets of Swindon.
The event, Swindon’s first-ever Grand Rath Yatra, was hosted by the Swindon Hindu Temple and drew hundreds of devotees, families, and well-wishers for a public celebration of faith.
The centrepiece was the Nandighosha chariot, beautifully decorated and specially brought from Puri in India, which was pulled through the town amid chants of “Jai Jagannath” and devotional singing.
Pradeep Bhardwaj, chairman of Swindon Hindu Temple, said: “This first ever Rath Yatra for Swindon Hindu Temple is a very significant moment, as Swindon Hindu Temple is one of only a handful of Temples in the entire UK and Europe to have the deities of the highly revered Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra, consecrated in the main altar of the temple, offering devotees in Swindon and the region an opportunity on their doorstep to offer their prayers to the Lord of the Universe, making Swindon a truly special place”

A smaller chariot was also included for children, who dressed in traditional attire and led the procession with enthusiasm.
The day was filled with sacred prayers, chanting, traditional drumming, and vibrant cultural performances.
The atmosphere, one of devotion and communal joy, brought people of all ages together in a procession of faith.
Traditional music and energetic dances added to the festive spirit, delighting both participants and onlookers.
