Two arrests have been made following a crash in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of this morning

A 17-year-old girl is fighting for her life after she was involved in a crash in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, July 26). At around 1.20am Merseyside Police received a report that two 17-year-old girls riding an e-scooter had been involved in a collision with a Mercedes Vito on Great George Street.
Emergency services attended the scene, and one of the girls was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
The second teenager was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drug driving, and driving without insurance.
The driver of the Mercedes Vito failed to stop at the scene, but following enquiries the vehicle was located nearby, and a 57-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and failing to stop.
Police have said their investigation into the incident is still in the very early stages, and detectives are continuing enquiries.
Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This was a very serious collision that has resulted in a young girl in hospital where she is currently in a critical condition.
“As part of our initial inquiries, we have arrested two people, and they both remain in custody, where they will be questioned about their possible involvement.
“In the meantime, I’d like to take this opportunity to appeal to any possible witnesses.
“We know this happened very early this morning, but if anyone saw what occurred or were driving through the area just before the incident, then please get in touch.
“I would also ask anyone who travelled through other parts of the city and saw two girls on an e-scooter to let us know.
“Similarly, if you live or work in the area and have CCTV or smart doorbell footage, please take a moment to review to see if you captured anything that could assist our investigation.
“Even the smallest of details could be vital, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch and let our team review your footage.”
