Indian shares open flat on Fed rates uncertainty


July 30 (Reuters) – Indian shares opened little changed on Thursday, after ‌the Federal Reserve left its ‌key interest rate unchanged as expected, but Chair ​Warsh pledged an unwavering commitment to bring inflation down, leaving investors confused.

Asian stocks traded choppy after Wall Street ‌equities and the ⁠dollar slipped overnight following the Fed decision, which drew dissent ⁠from three of the 12 members of the rate-setting committee. [MKTS/GLOB]

No Fed ​Chair before ​Kevin Warsh has ​faced this degree ‌of dissents so early in their tenure since the 1970s.

The benchmark Nifty 50 was little changed at 24,249.55, while the BSE Sensex shed 0.02% ‌to 77,638.86 by 9:15 ​a.m. IST.

Eleven of the ​16 major ​sectors logged losses at ‌the open. The broader ​small-caps and ​mid-caps fell 0.3% each.

Brent crude fell 1.4%, hovering around $90 a barrel, ​after rising ‌7.9% in the previous session. [O/R]
