The former nursing home has become a site that is continuously targeted
Residents have raised concerns over reports of break-ins and anti-social behaviour at the former nursing home in Braid Hills, Liberton.
Local MP, Ian Murray said he had been contacted by a number of residents worried about activity occurring at the vacant site. In response, he contacted Crown Care who manage the property, seeking reassurance over security measures.
According to Ian Murray, Crown Care had confirmed that the CCTV had stopped working temporarily due to a power cut. The issue has since been resolved, with CCTV back in operation alongside regular security patrols.
The company also told the MP that contractors are due to attend the site this week to board up areas of the building that remain accessible.
Sharing the update on Facebook, Murray thanked residents who raised their concerns and said he would continue to monitor the situation and keep residents up to date.
He said: “Thank you to everyone who has contacted me about the worrying trend of break-ins and antisocial behaviour at the former Braid Hills Nursing Home.
“I wrote to Crown Care, who manage the site, to reinforce residents’ concerns about this issue, and they have now provided me with an update on the measures they are taking to secure the site.
“According to their update, there was an issue with power in the building, which resulted in the CCTV failing. This has now been resolved and CCTV monitoring and patrols are in place.
“They have also arranged for contractors to attend this week to board up parts of the building that are currently open.
“I will keep monitoring the situation and will make sure to keep residents up to date on here.”
Police Scotland, Bupa and Crown Care have been approached for comment.
