The three-vehicle collision, on the major road at Alnwick, saw a closure enforced for nine hours as the emergency services worked at the scene
Northumbria Police has issued a statement on the crash on the A1 in Northumberland yesterday, with two people being hospitalised after two cars collided with a motorhome. A closure was enforced for nine hours with the emergency services working at the scene of the three-vehicle collision in Alnwick.
This closure, between the A1167 at Berwick-upon-Tweed and the B6347 at South Charlton, allowed for the road to be cleared, and the vehicles to be uplifted. The two people were taken to hospital so their injuries could be treated, and officers are continuing to make enquires into the full circumstances of the incident.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 12.05pm on Monday (May 4), we received a report of a three-vehicle collision on the A1 at Alnwick. Emergency services attended where it was understood that two cars had been involved in a collision with a motorhome.
“A section of the road between the A1167 Berwick-upon-Tweed and B6347 South Charlton was closed in both directions for around nine hours to allow for the road to be cleared, and for the vehicles to be uplifted safely.
“Two people were taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries. The road has since been fully re-opened, and enquiries are ongoing into the full circumstances surrounding the collision.”
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service also said: “We were called to a road traffic incident on the A1 near Alnwick at 12.05pm on 4 May. We dispatched three double crewed ambulances and a clinical team leader. Two patients were taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital.”
