Telugu Filmmaker Pavan Sadineni Arrested Following Serious Allegations of Abuse and Cheating
HYDERABAD — Renowned Telugu filmmaker Pavan Sadineni, best known for his recent work on the web series Dayaa, has been taken into judicial custody following a formal complaint filed by a woman alleging sexual abuse, physical assault, and fraud.
The Golconda Police registered the case against the director on August 7, 2026. Following his arrest, Sadineni was produced before a local magistrate, who ordered him to be remanded to the Chanchalguda Prison as the investigation proceeds.
Allegations of Deceit and Coercion
According to reports from authorities, the complainant claims to have been involved in a relationship with the filmmaker for over a year. She alleged that their association began with promises of financial support and career advancement, with Sadineni purportedly assuring her that he would produce a film she intended to direct.
The woman further alleged that she was initially unaware that Sadineni was married with children. Upon discovering his marital status, she claimed that the filmmaker misled her, insisting he was in the midst of divorce proceedings and promising to marry her once the legal process concluded.
The complaint outlines a disturbing pattern of behavior, with the woman alleging that Sadineni exploited her vulnerability. She claims that he forced her into sexual activity despite her documented health struggles and pressured her into engaging in sexual acts over video calls, even during moments when she was suffering from panic attacks.
Claims of Physical Assault
The legal action was spurred by a specific violent encounter the complainant alleges occurred at her residence on August 5. According to the police report, the situation escalated into physical abuse, with the woman claiming that Sadineni struck her in the face during an intimate encounter.
The victim reported losing consciousness during the incident and subsequently suffered from severe swelling around her eyes and face, accompanied by persistent headaches and back pain.
Based on her testimony, police have booked the filmmaker under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), specifically citing Section 69, which pertains to sexual intercourse by deceitful means, and Section 115(2), concerning the voluntary causing of hurt.
Impact on Career
Pavan Sadineni, who made his directorial debut in 2013 with Prem Ishq Kaadhal, has been a significant figure in the Telugu film industry. Following his work on Savitri and the well-received 2023 web series Dayaa, the filmmaker was recently tied to the high-profile, multilingual project Aakasam Lo Oka Tara, which features stars such as Dulquer Salmaan, Pooja Hegde, and Shruti Haasan.
The current legal crisis has cast a shadow over his professional future. Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing and that the filmmaker remains in judicial custody while the evidentiary process continues.
