An African student has delighted the internet with his spirited Hindi speech during a cultural programme at Nadeem Tareen Hall of Aligarh Muslim University, where he performed an act inspired by Chatur Ramalingam’s character in Rajkumar Hirani’s film 3 Idiots.
Ayyubi, a second-year B.Tech student at the university, took to the stage during the event and delivered his speech to loud cheers from the audience.
His performance, inspired by a popular scene from the 2009 film – in which Omi Vaidya’s character Chatur Ramalingam delivers a memorably distorted Hindi speech at a college event – saw Ayyubi adopt a similar tone and style as he imagined himself as a student union secretary.
The speech, which was reportedly written with help from fellow students, highlighted relatable hostel concerns – particularly the intense summer heat in Aligarh, where temperatures often cross 45°C. His fluent Hindi, comic timing, and confident stage presence resonated strongly with those present.
“Jaise ke aap sabhi log jaante hain aajkal bohat garmi hai, isliye main sabko AC dunga. Washing machine hoga sabko three times chai milega (As you all know what is happening these days it is very hot nowadays, so I will provide air conditioners for everyone. There will be washing machines and everyone will get tea three times a day),” he said during the act, drawing laughter and applause from the audience.
As soon as the speech concluded, the hall echoed with applause and cheers.
