Pavan Wadeyar Hails Yash’s ‘Toxic’ as a “Daring Attempt,” Praises Actor’s Immersive Performance
The Kannada film industry continues to rally behind director Geetu Mohandas’ latest cinematic venture, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. Following high-profile endorsements from industry stalwarts like Kichcha Sudeepa, Rishab Shetty, and Rakshitha Prem, acclaimed filmmaker Pavan Wadeyar has joined the chorus of praise, labeling the film a “daring attempt” at unconventional storytelling.

Wadeyar, known for helming commercial hits, took to social media to share his experience after watching the film in a packed theater. Moving away from the tropes of a conventional entertainer, he described Toxic as a complex “psychological journey” defined by its strong, layered characters.
“It really deserves a huge applause for the daring attempt,” Wadeyar wrote. While the director offered a balanced critique—noting that the screenplay and editing could have been tightened—he emphasized that the film’s ambition and artistic vision make it a must-watch experience for fans of serious cinema.
Yash’s Masterclass in Dual Roles
The filmmaker reserved his most significant praise for the lead star, Yash. Reflecting on the actor’s intense commitment to his dual roles as ‘Raya’ and ‘Ticket,’ Wadeyar noted that the transformation was profound.
“He has really taken over Raya into his blood veins,” Wadeyar remarked, adding that the film’s final 20 minutes were particularly moving, admitting, “I had tears in my eyes at the end for Raya.” He was especially captivated by the character ‘Ticket,’ confessing that the performance left a lasting impact on him.
A Legacy of Collaboration
The endorsement carries weight given the professional history between the two. Wadeyar and Yash previously collaborated on the 2013 blockbuster Googly, a milestone film that helped cement Yash’s status as a leading man. Their mutual respect has remained evident over the years, with Wadeyar previously praising Yash’s unparalleled dedication to character study.

The praise comes at a time when Toxic is maintaining strong commercial momentum. Despite polarized reactions from some critics, the film has performed exceptionally well at the box office, with recent reports indicating it is nearing a staggering Rs 300 crore worldwide gross within just five days of release.
As the industry continues to debate the merits of Geetu Mohandas’ bold direction, the film’s unique blend of gangster drama and psychological tension—paired with an emotionally resonant performance by Yash—has ensured that the Toxic remains the most talked-about project in Indian cinema today.
