“I Wouldn’t Recognize Them”: Veteran Actor Annu Kapoor Admits Disconnect from Today’s Bollywood Stars
In an industry often defined by its star power and constant media buzz, veteran actor Annu Kapoor has offered a candid—and perhaps surprising—take on contemporary Hindi cinema. The seasoned performer recently admitted that he has little to no familiarity with some of the biggest names currently dominating the Bollywood box office.

During a recent appearance on YouTuber Bhanu Pathak’s channel, the conversation shifted toward the current generation of A-list stars, including Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, and Sidharth Malhotra. Annu Kapoor, known for his prolific career and no-nonsense attitude, made it clear that he is largely unacquainted with these actors.
“I don’t know them by face, nor do I know them personally,” the actor stated in Hindi. “If they were to stand in front of me, I wouldn’t even recognize them.”
Kapoor clarified his stance, noting that his recognition of Ranbir Kapoor is limited strictly to the actor’s lineage as the son of the late, legendary Rishi Kapoor. Regarding the others, he candidly admitted, “I have never watched their work. I don’t know how they act, how they carry themselves, or how they speak. I simply don’t know who they are.”
Defending the Public’s Choice
Beyond his lack of familiarity with younger stars, Kapoor also weighed in on the habit of veteran actors offering public criticism of their successful peers—a practice sometimes seen in the industry. He questioned the tendency of some to critique established superstars like Shah Rukh Khan or Amitabh Bachchan.
“Whenever people speak [on this], they only speak negatively,” Kapoor remarked. He argued that personal opinions from within the industry do not necessarily negate an actor’s status, emphasizing that it is ultimately the audience who determines true stardom. “The public has made them superstars. Why do people only target these successful stars with their critiques?”
A Different Era of Cinema
Annu Kapoor’s remarks highlight a stark disconnect between different eras of Hindi filmmaking. While contemporary stars are ubiquitous on social media and in aggressive promotional campaigns, the veteran actor’s focus remains centered on his own craft and the professional path he has carved over decades.
Kapoor, who continues to be active in the industry, was most recently seen in the film Uttar Da Puttar, which hit theaters in July 2026.
