'Batwara 1947' box office collection Day 2: Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta starrer witnesses huge jump amid 'Awarapan 2' and 'Spider-Man Brand New Day' fever

Sunny Deol‘s latest cinematic offering, “Batwara 1947,” has recently hit theaters, generating considerable interest and garnering respectable figures at the box office collection. This partition-era drama, while receiving a mixed reception from audiences, has undeniably showcased Deol’s compelling performance, earning him significant praise.

Following its debut, the film experienced a substantial surge in its second-day earnings. On its first Saturday, “Batwara 1947,” helmed by acclaimed director Rajkumar Santoshi, saw an impressive 134.8% increase in its collection compared to its opening day. Reports from Sacnilk indicate that the film amassed an estimated ₹13.50 crore net across 8,071 screenings throughout India on this second day. This significant jump propelled its total domestic net collection to ₹19.25 crore, with a gross India collection reaching ₹22.91 crore.

The film’s performance extended beyond national borders, accumulating ₹2.00 crore overseas on its second day. This boosted its total overseas gross to ₹3.50 crore, contributing to a global gross collection of ₹26.41 crore. The overall occupancy for “Batwara 1947” on its first Saturday, August 15, 2026, was recorded at 35.37%, with evening shows witnessing the highest attendance, indicating a strong audience pull during prime viewing hours.

“Batwara 1947” entered a competitive cinematic landscape, clashing with Emraan Hashmi’s “Awarapan 2,” which ultimately emerged as the stronger performer in this direct confrontation. Furthermore, the film faced formidable competition from Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Home,” a monumental blockbuster that had already garnered over ₹557 crore in India by August 15, 2026. This challenging environment underscores the film’s commendable performance despite intense rivalry.

The movie marks a highly anticipated reunion between director Rajkumar Santoshi and actor Sunny Deol, a duo known for their successful collaborations on iconic films such as “Ghayal,” “Damini,” and “Ghatak.” The cast of “Batwara 1947” is a star-studded ensemble, featuring Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Karan Deol, Abhimanyu Singh, Khushi Hajare, Kanikka Kapur, and Isha Sandhir, all contributing to the narrative’s depth. Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, “Batwara 1947” premiered in theaters on August 14, 2026, offering audiences a dramatic portrayal of a pivotal historical period.
