Batwara 1947 Full Movie Collection: 'Batwara 1947' box office collection day 4: Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta's film sees 72 percent drop on Monday, struggles to cross Rs 30 crore while 'Awarapan 2' inches towards Rs 100 crore | Hindi Movie News

Sunny Deol’s ‘Batwara 1947’ Stumbles at Box Office, ‘Awarapan 2’ Nears ₹100 Crore Mark

Mumbai, India – Sunny Deol’s much-anticipated Partition drama, ‘Batwara 1947,’ has experienced a significant downturn at the box office, with its collections plummeting on its first Monday. The film, which opened to modest numbers, now faces an uphill battle to recover its theatrical run, especially when contrasted with the continued strong performance of ‘Awarapan 2.’

According to box office tracker Sacnilk, ‘Batwara 1947’ commenced its journey on Friday, August 14th, with a net collection of ₹5.75 crore. Saturday, August 15th, saw a promising surge, with figures rising to ₹13.50 crore. However, this momentum was short-lived, as Sunday, August 16th, witnessed a dip, bringing in ₹7.25 crore—a 22% decrease from Saturday’s earnings, reportedly due to fewer show timings.

The critical "Monday test," crucial for a film’s sustained box office viability, proved disastrous for the Rajkumar Santoshi directorial. On Monday, August 17th, the film’s net collection plummeted to a mere ₹2 crore, marking a staggering 72% drop from its Sunday earnings. This steep decline brings the film’s total four-day net collection in India to a disappointing ₹28.50 crore, with its gross collection standing at ₹33.95 crore. At this rate, ‘Batwara 1947’ is struggling to even cross the ₹30 crore net milestone within its first four days.

Despite being produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, and featuring Sunny Deol in the lead role as Sikandar Mirza, a Muslim man migrating to Pakistan post-Partition, the period drama has failed to resonate with audiences as expected. While critics have largely offered favorable reviews, this critical appreciation has not translated into ticket sales.

In stark contrast, ‘Awarapan 2’ continues its impressive run at the box office. The film garnered ₹9.25 crore on Monday, further solidifying its strong performance. After just four days, ‘Awarapan 2’ has reportedly amassed a net collection of ₹91 crore in India and is steadily inching closer to the coveted ₹100 crore benchmark.

Day-wise (net) collection of ‘Batwara 1947’:

  • Day 1 (1st Friday): ₹5.75 crore
  • Day 2 (1st Saturday): ₹13.50 crore
  • Day 3 (1st Sunday): ₹7.25 crore
  • Day 4 (1st Monday): ₹2.00 crore

Total Net Collection in India: ₹28.50 crore

The disparity in box office performance between the two films highlights the unpredictable nature of audience reception and the fierce competition within the industry. While ‘Batwara 1947’ grapples with its commercial viability, ‘Awarapan 2’ appears set for a significant box office success.
