Tragedy in Whitefield: Software Engineer Dies After Fall from 7th Floor of Co-living PG

BENGALURU: A chilling incident in the tech hub of Bengaluru has left the local community in shock after a 23-year-old software engineer died and her 30-year-old friend sustained severe injuries following a fatal fall from the seventh floor of a private co-living PG facility.

The deceased has been identified as Janani, a software engineer employed at Societe Generale. A native of Ulaivaikkal, Puducherry, she had been residing at the Mountain PG located on ECC Road in Whitefield since January of this year. The injured man, identified as Manichavelu—a logistics professional also hailing from Puducherry—is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.

Sequence of Events

According to preliminary investigations conducted by the Bengaluru police, the tragedy unfolded following a heated verbal dispute between the two earlier in the day. Authorities suspect that during the altercation, Janani approached the edge of the balcony with the apparent intention of jumping. In a harrowing turn of events, it is believed that she pulled Manichavelu with her as she went over the ledge.

The impact proved fatal for Janani, who died on the spot. Manichavelu, however, reportedly survived the fall after landing on tree branches, which cushioned his descent before he hit the ground. He was rushed to a nearby medical facility by emergency responders and remains under constant medical supervision.

Police Investigation Underway

Local law enforcement officials arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to conduct a thorough forensic inspection of the premises. As the city grapples with the details of this Bengaluru techie dead, investigators have registered a formal case.

“We are currently investigating the exact circumstances that led to the incident, as well as the underlying reasons behind the argument that preceded the fall,” a police spokesperson stated.

As the investigation continues, the authorities are looking into witness statements from other residents of the co-living facility to determine the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy. Further details are expected to emerge as the survivor recovers and provides his statement to the police.
