BREAKING: Newcastle United star set for World Cup heartbreak after injury blow

Newcastle United have reportedly lost one of their England players to injury, who was due to represent the country at the World Cup in North America this summer

Tino Livramento has reportedly sustained a hamstring injury that will prevent him from featuring for England at the World Cup.

Livramento, 23, played the second half of England’s first friendly this summer against New Zealand, but was then an unused substitute when they played Costa Rica in their second and final one. A thigh injury kept the full-back out of Newcastle United’s final six matches of the Premier League season.

The Telegraph reports that Thomas Tuchel is ready to replace him with Trevoh Chalobah. Any withdrawal would leave Dan Burn as the only Newcastle player in England’s World Cup squad.

Eddie Howe spoke optimistically at the end of last season about his player being available for the World Cup. He said: “Tino, we think, will be fine.

“If the season was to go on for another couple of weeks, he’d be back for us. It wasn’t a serious injury, and it looks like he is moving well on the grass now.”

It is the second hamstring injury Livramento has suffered this year. The Newcastle star was ruled out for two months at the turn of the year after hobbling off in the FA Cup win over Bournemouth back in January.

He eventually returned to action in March but struggled for form, before picking up the thigh injury which brought a premature end to his season.

Livramento will now return to Tyneside for treatment and to be assessed by the Newcastle medical staff with the full-back facing a race to be fit for the start of the new Premier League campaign.
