Liverpool have been rocked by another seismic summer departure as Ibrahima Konaté is reportedly set to leave Anfield upon the expiration of his contract on June 30.
According to reports from talkSPORT on Thursday night, the French international has failed to agree to a contract extension with the club, meaning he will walk away as a free agent.
The news comes as an immense blow to Arne Slot, following hot on the heels of emotional Anfield farewells for club icons Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.
The sudden breakdown in communication has caught many by surprise. It had emerged in April that the 27-year-old was closing in on an agreement over a long-term deal.
At the time, head coach Arne Slot publicly downplayed any panic, suggesting there was little more to do than “iron out” minor details.
However, journalist Ben Jacobs broke the news on X that negotiations have completely collapsed:
“No agreement has been reached between LFC and the French defender despite Konate indicating in April a deal was close.”
