Choosing With Confidence: Why BBB Matters for Summer Projects in Northern Arizona

In Northern Arizona, BBB’s presence extends beyond online resources.

For many people, the Better Business Bureau is recognized by the familiar torch logo displayed on a website, storefront or service vehicle. But beyond the logo, BBB represents something much more meaningful: trust, accountability and confidence in the everyday decisions consumers make.

As summer settles into Northern Arizona, many residents are tackling home improvement projects, hosting gatherings, planning events and checking off long-overdue repairs. From hiring painters, landscapers and contractors to booking caterers, photographers or wellness services, these decisions often involve inviting businesses into personal spaces and important moments. In many cases, consumers are not simply purchasing a service, they are placing trust in someone they may have never worked with before.

Our homes are our sanctuary,” said Erin Morrow, senior director of Accredited Business Experience at Better Business Bureau Serving the Pacific Southwest, Central & Inland California. “It’s where our families gather, where memories are made and where we should feel safe and comfortable. Taking a few extra moments to research a business before hiring them can make all the difference in finding someone reliable, ethical and professional.”

Better Business Bureau helps consumers make those decisions with greater confidence by providing free access to trusted business information and educational resources through BBB.org. Consumers can explore business profiles, read customer reviews, check complaint histories, verify licensing information when applicable, and see how businesses respond to concerns and feedback.

Businesses that earn BBB Accreditation voluntarily commit to BBB’s Standards for Trust, which include principles such as honesty, transparency, integrity, responsiveness and safeguarding customer privacy. Accreditation signals that a business has agreed to uphold ethical business practices and maintain a positive track record within the community.

In Northern Arizona, BBB’s presence extends beyond online resources. The BBB Prescott Campus serves as a hub for business education, community engagement, consumer awareness programming, and small business support. Through workshops, networking opportunities, scam prevention education, and partnerships with local organizations, BBB works to strengthen the relationship between businesses and the communities they serve.

Trust is built through consistent actions. Whether someone is choosing a contractor, looking for a financial service or supporting a local business, consumers deserve tools that help them feel informed and empowered throughout the process.

BBB also provides dispute resolution services when challenges arise between consumers and businesses, helping both parties work toward fair, respectful, and constructive outcomes. These services are designed to encourage communication, accountability and resolution while supporting a healthier marketplace for everyone involved.

As spending and service requests increase during the busy summer season, BBB encourages consumers to slow down, ask questions, verify information and do their research before making purchasing decisions. Simple steps – such as checking a business profile, reading reviews, requesting written estimates and confirming contact information – can help consumers avoid scams and make more confident choices.
