Dehradun, 23 Jul: Dr Sushil Upadhyay, Principal of Chaman Lal Postgraduate College and noted academician, has been selected for the Government of India’s Central Hindi Directorate’s ‘Professor Lecture Series’. Under the programme, he will interact with Hindi scholars, research scholars and students of Hindi in non-Hindi-speaking states. Dr Upadhyay has also been a journalist for two prominent Hindi newspapers in Dehradun.
Dr Upadhyay’s selection was announced through a communication issued by the Director of the Central Hindi Directorate, Prof Hitendra Kumar Mishra. Under the scheme, eight Hindi scholars from across the country have been selected, including four from Hindi-speaking regions and four engaged in the teaching and research of Hindi in non-Hindi-speaking regions. Dr Upadhyay is among the four professors selected from the Hindi-speaking region and is the only one from Uttarakhand to be chosen for the programme.
As part of the initiative, Upadhyay will, in the coming months, interact with Hindi teachers, research scholars and students at various universities and colleges in Maharashtra. The Central Hindi Directorate has launched the programme with the objective of promoting dialogue on the Hindi language and literature between Hindi-speaking and non-Hindi-speaking regions and strengthening national integration through language. Under the same initiative, Prof Sindhu TI, a noted Hindi scholar from Kerala, will visit universities and colleges in Uttarakhand in September to interact with Hindi teachers, research scholars and students.
Assistant Director at the Central Hindi Directorate, Dr Deepak Pandey said the lecture series is being organised under the Directorate’s Extension Programme Scheme. As part of this initiative, study tours for Hindi students from non-Hindi-speaking regions, camps for emerging Hindi writers from non-Hindi-speaking areas and national seminars are also being organised.
Speaking to Garhwal Post, Upadhyay said he would make efforts to connect students in non-Hindi-speaking regions with the Hindi language, its literature and the wider Hindi cultural milieu. He added that his lectures would cover the practical use of Hindi, its role in administration, education and business, the need for translation between Hindi and other Indian languages, the status of Hindi in contemporary media, the changing nature of Hindi in new media and social media, women’s discourse and Dalit literature in Hindi.
Upadhyay further stated that the lecture series would also focus on creative writing in Hindi, the relationship between cinema and society, India’s linguistic diversity in the context of the National Education Policy, artificial intelligence (AI) and the Hindi language, opportunities and challenges for building careers through Hindi, and the various dimensions of Hindi as the Official Language.
