Egypt Football Manager Hossam Hassan Embroiled in Hotel Brawl and Divorce Drama

MARINA EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT – Egypt’s national football team manager, Hossam Hassan, has found himself at the center of a sensational off-field scandal after reports emerged of a physical altercation between his two wives at an upscale hotel on Egypt’s North Coast. The incident, which reportedly saw Hassan himself collapse while attempting to intervene, has culminated in his divorce from his first wife, Howaida Al-Gharbawy.

The dramatic scenes unfolded at a cafe within the Marina El Alamein hotel, where Hassan was reportedly on holiday. Eyewitnesses and various media outlets describe an escalating argument between Howaida Al-Gharbawy, Hassan’s wife of several decades, and Dina Mostafa, also known as Dan Adam, his second wife. The verbal spat reportedly devolved into a physical confrontation, much to the shock of other holidaymakers.

Spanish outlet Cadena SER reported that Hassan, in an attempt to de-escalate the volatile situation, stepped between the two women but subsequently collapsed, reportedly due to the immense stress of the incident. Following this, Egyptian outlet Al Arabiya claimed that Hassan had officially divorced Howaida.

However, conflicting accounts have emerged. Sky News Arabia reported that Hassan’s lawyer vehemently denied any claims of a health crisis, stating that the manager was in good health. Despite the lawyer’s denial regarding his collapse, the core narrative of a chaotic confrontation remains largely consistent across reports.

The altercation reportedly continued even with the intervention of family members and security personnel, eventually necessitating police involvement to separate the women. Both Howaida and Dan Adam are said to have sustained cuts and bruises. Video footage purportedly capturing parts of the confrontation has since circulated widely on social media platforms, adding to the public scrutiny.

Mohamed Shams, legal representative for Dan Adam, confirmed the divorce to Sky News Arabia, stating, "We hoped it wouldn’t come to divorce, but things escalated to this level." Shams further alleged that his client had been the victim of a "premeditated attack" during their holiday. In contrast, Ahmed Hamad, representing Howaida Al-Gharbawy’s family, declined to comment on the specifics of the separation, indicating that the family was maintaining media silence.

Hossam Hassan and Howaida Al-Gharbawy had been married for decades and share three children. Their marriage had experienced a brief 10-day separation in 2022 before a reconciliation. Hassan married Dan Adam in 2015, a decision permissible under Egyptian law, which allows Muslim men to have up to four wives simultaneously, provided existing wives are notified and treated equally in matters such of housing, financial support, and living standards. Following the hotel incident, Hassan is reported to have formally divorced Howaida at a legal registrar’s office in Cairo, though the precise circumstances leading to this final decision have not been publicly detailed by Howaida’s representatives.

This highly publicized personal drama arrives shortly after Hassan led Egypt’s national team to the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they were defeated 3-2 by Argentina on July 7 in Atlanta. During the tournament, Hassan also garnered attention for his outspoken criticisms of FIFA, alleging bias towards Lionel Messi and Argentina. Despite these controversies, he recently renewed his contract with the Egyptian national team, securing his position until 2030.

However, this latest incident has dramatically shifted public attention from Hassan’s professional achievements to his personal life, with conflicting reports surrounding his reported collapse and the circumstances of his divorce leaving many questions unanswered and much of the narrative reliant on the varying accounts of those involved.
