The Environment Agency has opened applications for board members, with a focus on candidates who can bring “new and diverse experience” to the organisation.
At least three roles are available to join the board, which sets the Environment Agency’s strategy and overall direction.
There will be an opportunity to contribute to key ongoing work supporting growth, protecting communities from flooding and environmental harm and tackling waste crime.
The Environment Agency is DEFRA’s largest non-departmental public body, employs around 13,000 staff and has an annual budget of approximately £1.7 billion. Its staff and offices are based throughout England in 15 operational areas with head offices in Bristol and London.
Having been established in 1996, the Environment Agency has been protecting and improving the environment for over 20 years. Its remit covers about 13 million hectares of land, 22,000 miles of river, 3,100 miles of coastline and 2 million hectares of coastal waters.
Additional experience
The EA said it is keen to hear from all candidates, regardless of their level of experience with or knowledge of serving on a board.
The organisation is looking for candidates with additional experience in areas including agriculture or farming, engineering, environmental NGOs (non-government organisations), local government, economics, regulation or growth. Plus, candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to environmental protection and improvement.
Time commitment is four days per month, with a daily rate of £438. The term lasts between three and four years.
