The teaser of Haunted – Echoes Of The Past was unveiled yesterday, May 5 and promotions for the horror flick have begun in full force. Interestingly, the film will have a release in Tamil and Telugu as well. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Haunted – Echoes Of The Past’s director, Vikram Bhatt, spoke about this aspect and also revealed how his past films have also gone the pan-India way.
EXCLUSIVE: Haunted – Echoes Of The Past to release in Tamil and Telugu; Vikram Bhatt says “ONLY Hindi star accepted in the South is horror”; also reveals he was on the pan-India bandwagon before it became cool: “1920 was dubbed in Telugu and even in English!”
Vikram Bhatt told Bollywood Hungama, “There’s no star from Hindi cinema that has been accepted completely by the South audience. The only star that has been accepted is a horror film! My first 1920 film (2008) was dubbed as 1920 Gayatri and it did very well in Telugu. Even the dubbed version of 1920: Horrors Of The Heart (2023) was a success. There are people who like my films down South also. So, if they get to hear the dialogue in the local language, there’s a much larger reach.”
Was Haunted’s first part dubbed as well? Vikram Bhatt replied, “No. Woh zamana alag tha.” However, the first part of 1920 came even before, in 2008. When pointed out, Vikram Bhatt revealed, “Somebody had taken the rights from us. We didn’t get it dubbed. It was also dubbed in English by another person!”
Haunted was a sleeper hit in 2011. Hence, is there pressure on him to deliver numbers with Haunted – Echoes Of The Past? Vikram Bhatt stated, “Firstly, all my hits have been sleeper-hits! And even notwithstanding the box office, it’s still a successful franchise. We haven’t spent that kind of money, which is not recoverable. We have made a profit through the sale of digital, satellite and music rights. So, we’ll be home and dry.”
Like Haunted, Haunted – Echoes Of The Past also stars Mimoh Chakraborty and this time, he’s joined by Chetna Pande, Shruti Prakash, Gaurav Bajpai, Praneet Bhatt and Hemant Pandey. It is produced by Anand Pandit and Rakesh Juneja and will be distributed worldwide by Anand Pandit Motion Pictures. It releases in cinemas on June 12.
