F2 Feature Race Report Hungarian Grand Prix

Campos Racing’s Noel Leon won the Formula 2 feature race at the Hungaroring. Kush Maini finished in second place, while Rafael Camara completed the podium.

After the race, however, Maini will be investigated for a pit lane infringement.

In the drivers’ standings, Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov now holds a 20-point lead over Gabriele Mini and a 22-point advantage over Camara heading into the summer break. The Bulgarian finished seventh, while the MP Motorsport driver crossed the finish line in ninth place.

As it happened

Starting from pole position, Maini stayed in the lead after Turn 1. After crashing out in the sprint race a day earlier, Tsolov also endured a difficult start on Sunday. The Bulgarian made contact with Martinius Stenshorne before colliding with John Bennett, dropping to P11.

After Tsolov caught up with one of his championship rivals, Mini, who was running in P8, the Italian pitted on Lap 16. Rafa Villagomez’s car then stopped on track, leading to a Virtual Safety Car. At the front, only Noel Leon was able to somewhat capitalize on the incident.

Camara and Maini completed their pit stops on Laps 21 and 22 respectively, and both returned to the track behind Leon.

On an alternative strategy, Tsolov made his pit stop on Lap 25 and rejoined the track in P11. Four laps later, the Red Bull junior overtook Mini exiting the penultimate corner to move up to ninth place, and gained further positions after other drivers made their stops and overtook Joshua Durksen on Lap 35 as well.
