Nvidia Bolsters GeForce Now with Steam Controller Support and New DLSS 4.5 Features
Nvidia has announced a significant expansion for its GeForce Now cloud gaming service, revealing a roadmap that deepens its integration with Valve’s hardware ecosystem and introduces cutting-edge graphical enhancements. The updates, which coincide with a wave of industry news surrounding Gamescom, aim to make high-fidelity cloud gaming more accessible and feature-rich than ever.
Deepening the Valve Connection
In a move set to excite handheld and living-room PC gamers, Nvidia confirmed that GeForce Now will officially support the Steam Controller and Steam Machine hardware later this year.
Users of the Steam Deck and Steam Machine will soon be able to leverage the Steam Controller’s unique haptics and trackpad precision directly within the GeForce Now app. While this functionality is slated to launch on those specific platforms first, Nvidia has noted that support for the controller on Windows and macOS is currently in development and will arrive in a subsequent update.
DLSS 4.5 and Technical Upgrades
Beyond hardware compatibility, Nvidia is pushing its graphical prowess further with the rollout of DLSS 4.5. The update introduces advanced controls for key performance-boosting features:
- DLSS Super Resolution: Providing clearer upscaling for demanding titles.
- Dynamic Frame Generation: Improving fluidity in fast-paced gameplay.
- Ray Reconstruction: Now entering early access for RTX GPU users, this feature aims to enhance the visual fidelity of ray-traced lighting and reflections.
Platform Expansion and Ecosystem Integration
Nvidia’s expansion strategy continues to move beyond dedicated gaming PCs. The company confirmed that GeForce Now recently extended its reach to the Mozilla Firefox browser, allowing more users to access the cloud service without needing a standalone desktop application.
Additionally, Nvidia is strengthening its relationship with major storefronts and hardware ecosystems:
- GOG Integration: The long-anticipated GOG single-sign-on feature is now officially live, simplifying the library synchronization process for users.
- Fire TV Support: GeForce Now will expand to additional Amazon Fire TV Sticks later this year. As part of this push, users will eventually be able to purchase and manage their GeForce Now subscriptions directly through the Amazon interface, further streamlining the onboarding process for living-room gamers.
These updates represent a concerted effort by Nvidia to ensure that GeForce Now remains a platform-agnostic powerhouse, bridging the gap between high-end hardware, handheld devices, and browser-based accessibility.
