Ronaldo and Rodríguez Exchange Vows in Intimate Home Ceremony, Foregoing Grandeur for Family Focus

Cascais, Portugal – In a move that defied expectations and captivated fans worldwide, football icon Cristiano Ronaldo and model Georgina Rodríguez officially tied the knot on August 11th, opting for a deeply personal and intimate ceremony within the confines of their Cascais home. After nearly a decade together, the couple, renowned for their opulent lifestyle and global fame, chose their living room as the setting to exchange vows, surrounded by their five children.

The decision to shun a lavish, public affair was revealed by Rodríguez in an exclusive interview with Vogue, where she explained the couple’s desire for something "unusual" and profoundly meaningful. "When I was a little girl, I dreamt of the biggest castle, the biggest carriage, the longest dress [and] a crown full of diamonds," Rodríguez confessed, articulating a childhood fantasy that many might have anticipated for their nuptials. "And now I’m saying, ‘No. I want something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home.’"

For Rodríguez, the allure of an intimate ceremony stemmed from the very luxuries they already possess. "Because castles, houses, islands, horses, cars: We have all of that within reach every day," she stated. "But something intimate, that’s more unusual for us." This sentiment underscores a desire to create a unique and personal memory, distinct from the extraordinary experiences that are a regular part of their lives.

The chosen location – the family’s living room in Cascais – holds significant emotional value. It’s the space where the family gathers for daily meals and shared moments, a place where, as Rodríguez describes, they "live the reality of our lives." This familiarity was central to their decision, aiming to embed their wedding into the fabric of their shared history rather than as a standalone event. Rodríguez expressed a poignant hope for the future: "In 30 years’ time I want the children to think, ‘Something wonderful happened at this table, the wedding vows of our parents.’" Ronaldo, ever the wit, playfully responded to this, joking, "It probably won’t be the same table. We might change the decor."

Central to the emotional resonance of the day was the presence of their five children: Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., 16; twins Eva Maria and Mateo, nine; Alana, eight; and Bella, four. Cristiano Jr. predates Ronaldo’s relationship with Rodríguez, while the other children form the family unit they have built together. The ceremony was particularly poignant given the family’s shared experience of loss, following the passing of Bella’s twin brother, Ángel, at birth in April 2022 – a topic Rodríguez bravely addressed in her Netflix series, I Am Georgina.

"It was exactly as I’d imagined it," Rodríguez shared, reflecting on the day. "Intimate, full of love, and with our family in the most important starring role. I couldn’t hold back the tears." This family-centric approach also clarifies why earlier reports of a grand wedding at Funchal Cathedral in Madeira proved to be unfounded. The couple chose to keep their actual ceremony private, only revealing their marriage afterward through photographs of their wedding rings, with Ronaldo simply captioning the announcement, "C❤️G."

While this intimate living-room ceremony marked their official union, Rodríguez has hinted that a larger celebration may still be on the horizon. This initial wedding, however, provided the couple with something they deeply desired at this stage of their lives: a moment reserved primarily for them and their children, shielded from the intense public scrutiny that has long defined their relationship.

Their journey began when they met during Rodríguez’s time working at a Gucci store in Madrid, evolving into a shared life spanning Portugal, Spain, and Saudi Arabia. After almost a decade, they chose to commemorate their marriage not with a spectacle, but in the heart of their home, where their children eat, where ordinary days unfold, and where, in Rodríguez’s words, they "live the reality of our lives."
