HPBOSE Overhauls Registration Process: Students to Enroll in Classes 9 and 11 Starting 2026

Shimla: In a significant administrative shift, the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has announced a major update to its registration policy. Effective immediately, students studying in all government and private schools affiliated with the Board will now be required to register during their 9th and 11th-grade years, rather than waiting until the 10th and 12th grades as per the previous system.

Streamlining Board Examinations

The decision, spearheaded by HPBOSE Chairman Dr. Rajesh Sharma, comes as part of an effort to minimize technical hurdles and administrative bottlenecks that often arise during the high-pressure period of Board examinations. By moving the registration process to the preceding academic year, the Board aims to ensure a smoother transition for students and institutions alike.

Under these new guidelines, a registration completed in Class 9 will remain valid until the student successfully completes their Class 10 Matriculation examination. Similarly, the registration performed in Class 11 will stay active until the student passes the Class 12 Senior Secondary examination.

Key Regulatory Changes

This policy adjustment follows an amendment to Rule 18.1 of Chapter 18 of the Examination Regulations, 1994. The mandate applies to all affiliated institutions. Notably, students migrating from other educational boards or universities who secure direct admission into Class 10 or Class 12 will still be required to register as new candidates under the revised framework.

Fee Structure and Deadlines

The Board has set a fixed registration fee of Rs 200 per student. To ensure compliance, HPBOSE has issued a strict timeline for schools to follow:

  • Standard Deadline: Institutions must complete the registration process by October 15 to avoid any additional charges.
  • Late Registration: Applications submitted after October 15 will be accepted until November 15, 2026, subject to a late fee of Rs 500.

The Board has emphasized that no applications will be entertained after the November 15 deadline without the explicit prior approval of the Board Chairman.

Directive to School Heads

Dr. Rajesh Sharma has directed the principals and heads of all affiliated schools to take personal responsibility for ensuring that all eligible students are registered within the prescribed timeframes.

“The objective is to refine our administrative processes,” said an official statement from the Board. “We urge all stakeholders, including parents and school management, to remain updated through our official channels.”
