Hyundai Capital Enters Indian Market with Launch of Specialized Financial Services
SEOUL, South Korea – August 31, 2026 – Hyundai Capital Services, the global financial arm of the Hyundai Motor Group, has officially marked its entry into the Indian market, transitioning from a consulting presence to a fully operational financial entity. This strategic move establishes Hyundai Capital India (HCIN) as the company’s 14th global financial entity and a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Seoul-based parent company.
The launch comes following the successful acquisition of a Non-banking Financial Company (NBFC) license from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) this past March. With this regulatory milestone, the firm is now set to bring its extensive international expertise to one of the world’s three largest automotive markets.
A Phased Growth Strategy
Recognizing India’s immense scale and its unique, diverse regional financial environments, Hyundai Capital has designed a phased implementation plan. In this initial stage, HCIN will prioritize wholesale financing for local automotive dealers. By securing the financial stability of the dealer network, the company aims to build a robust foundation for its broader operations.
“Building on the expertise we have developed in Korea and across key global markets, we plan to introduce a range of financing solutions that support the Group’s sales in India,” said Hyung-Jin David Chung, CEO of Hyundai Capital Services. “With a disciplined strategy designed for the Indian market, we will work to achieve both sustainable growth and operational stability as we build our business in the country.”
Supporting Long-term Expansion
The move into India is a strategic pillar in supporting the Hyundai Motor Group’s broader objectives in the region. As India’s population surpasses 1.4 billion and its economy continues its rapid growth trajectory, the Group is actively expanding its local production capacity and accelerating the rollout of an electric vehicle (EV) lineup tailored specifically for Indian consumers.
Beyond current wholesale offerings, HCIN is already working to establish the infrastructure and rigorous risk management systems required to eventually provide retail financing services directly to individual customers.
A Growing Global Footprint
With the establishment of the Indian entity, Hyundai Capital Services now operates 19 entities across 14 countries, including major markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, and Canada. The company remains committed to expanding its international footprint, leveraging its specialized auto finance capabilities to drive the global competitiveness of Hyundai Motor Group.
By localizing its operations, Hyundai Capital India is poised to become a critical component in the automotive giant’s success within the high-growth Indian economy.
