ILT20 Season 5: Global T20 Stars Bolster Squads Ahead of Player Auction

Dubai: The International League T20 (ILT20) is gearing up for an electrifying fifth season, with a stellar lineup of international T20 specialists confirmed as pre-auction signings. New Zealand sensation Finn Allen, alongside South African powerhouses David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen, will headline the fresh faces making their tournament debuts when the six-team competition kicks off in November-December.
Allen, a dynamic opener, has been secured by the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. Meanwhile, Miller and Klaasen, both formidable batters, are set to bolster the Gulf Giants’ squad. Adding to the excitement, Australia’s versatile all-rounder Marcus Stoinis makes a highly anticipated return to the league after a three-year hiatus, joining the Dubai Capitals.
The six franchises finalized their foreign-player pre-auction signings on Monday, August 3rd. Each team was permitted to secure up to four players before the main auction, a strategic move designed to build core strengths early.
Several established figures will also continue their association with their Season 4 franchises, ensuring continuity and familiarity for fans. Jason Holder and Sunil Narine remain integral to the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, while defending champions Desert Vipers have successfully retained the explosive Shimron Hetmyer.
Dubai Capitals have opted for consistency by retaining Rovman Powell and Mustafizur Rahman. Similarly, MI Emirates will see the return of Nicholas Pooran, Rashid Khan, and Romario Shepherd, while Sikandar Raza continues his tenure with Sharjah Warriorz.
The defending champions, Desert Vipers, have also brought back Andries Gous and Dan Lawrence. The Gulf Giants, keen on maintaining their squad’s balance, have retained Azmatullah Omarzai and Blessing Muzarabani.
Among other notable pre-auction movements, Afghanistan’s spin wizard Mujeeb-ur-Rahman will transition to the Desert Vipers after playing for Dubai Capitals in Season 4. Sherfane Rutherford joins MI Emirates, while the Sharjah Warriorz have strengthened their ranks with James Vince, Adam Milne (who previously played for the Warriorz in Season 3), and Waqar Salamkheil. Furthermore, the Dubai Capitals have acquired Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad, who previously represented the Desert Vipers.
New Arrivals: A Deep Dive
Finn Allen: The 27-year-old New Zealand opener arrives with a formidable reputation in international T20 cricket. His recent form includes a blistering 33-ball century against South Africa in the semi-final of the 2026 T20 World Cup. With 1,663 runs in 62 T20Is at an astonishing strike rate of 170.73, including three centuries, Allen is poised to be a game-changer for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders.
David Miller: The experienced South African left-hander brings a wealth of knowledge to the Gulf Giants. With 140 T20Is under his belt and 2,804 runs at an average of 33.78 and a strike rate of 141.40, Miller’s ability to finish games will be crucial.
Heinrich Klaasen: Known for his destructive batting, particularly against spin, the South Africa wicketkeeper-batter has become a T20 specialist. He has notched up 1,000 T20I runs in 58 appearances and boasts close to 7,000 runs from almost 300 T20 matches across his career for the Gulf Giants.

Marcus Stoinis: A vital member of Australia’s 2021 T20 World Cup-winning side, Stoinis has been a consistent performer in white-ball cricket for over a decade. His all-round capabilities, with 1,416 runs in 87 T20Is at a strike rate of 146.28 and 53 wickets with his medium pace, make him a valuable asset for the Dubai Capitals.
The remaining squad slots will be filled at the ILT20 Season 5 Player Auction, scheduled for October 1st in Dubai. Squads must comprise between 18 and 23 players, with opportunities for UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and additional overseas players to be selected through the auction process. Players interested in participating have until September 12th to register for the auction. Following the auction, each franchise will also be granted one additional wildcard signing.
Season 5 of the 34-match tournament promises thrilling cricket across November and December, setting the stage for another memorable installment of the ILT20.
