He is going to be seen in Undekhi 4, and for Gautam Rode, the current phase of his career is less about visibility and more about variation. The actor, long associated with television, is consciously shifting gears, choosing layered roles across platforms while navigating a work-life balance that OTT formats now allow.Speaking about how he chooses roles that differ from his previous work, he says, “The last one I did, Maamla Legal Hai Season 2, I was playing a gay character. Then there’s Undekhi, which is completely different. I can’t talk much about it right now, but it’s something I’ve not done before. It’s complex, and that really excites me. When the character was narrated to me, it immediately clicked because it was unlike anything I’ve done. There’s another show I am doing called The Storm, where again the arc is totally different.”He further adds, “In terms of looks also, it’s completely different. One has a beard, this one has stubble and long hair, the other is clean-shaven with short hair. The mannerisms, characterization — everything is different. Even the platforms are different. I am really enjoying playing these varied roles at this stage in my career.”OTT, he says, offers that creative space to him and also helps on the personal front. “With OTT, you stay connected to a show for maybe eight months, but you’re hardly shooting for 20–25 days. There’s prep, workshops, costume trials, but actual shoot days are limited. So I get to spend time with my kids. You’re not waking up early, coming back late, and repeating that cycle every day. That balance is something I’m really enjoying. No complaints.”
