India to Host Afghanistan in Crucial T20I Series Ahead of Asian Games

NEW DELHI – The cricketing world is abuzz with the confirmation from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding a highly anticipated three-match T20 International (T20I) series. Afghanistan will “host” India at the iconic Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi from September 13 to 17, 2026.

This series, part of Afghanistan’s Future Tours Program (FTP), underscores a growing tradition where Afghanistan, due to ongoing circumstances, utilizes neutral venues for its home fixtures. The Arun Jaitley Stadium will witness all three encounters, with matches scheduled for September 13, September 15, and September 17.

This fixture marks only the second bilateral T20I contest between these two nations. Their last encounter was a three-match series in January 2024, where India emerged victorious across venues in Mohali, Indore, and Bengaluru. The upcoming series provides a fresh opportunity for both teams to test their mettle.

For the Indian T20I side, this series arrives at a pivotal juncture. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the team has navigated a challenging recent period. A 2-0 series defeat against Ireland was followed by a comprehensive 4-0 loss to England. However, the squad recently showed resilience, halting their losing streak with a convincing 3-0 victory over Zimbabwe in the concluding T20I series.

With the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, scheduled from September 19 to October 4, these three T20Is against Afghanistan offer an invaluable opportunity.
