India Concludes Mixed Disability IT20 Series with Commanding Victory at Lord’s
By Dhaarini Giridharan Venmathi
India delivered a masterclass performance to close out their seven-match Mixed Disability IT20 series, securing a resounding 118-run victory against England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. While the triumph served as a powerful statement of intent, it was the hosts, England, who ultimately walked away with the series trophy, claiming a hard-fought 4-3 overall victory.
A Dominant Display with the Bat
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, India faced an immediate hurdle when opener Shankar was dismissed for a duck. However, the early setback proved to be a mere blip. Sai Akash and Gowre quickly seized control, stitching together a partnership that shifted the momentum firmly in India’s favor.
Gowre, in particular, batted with notable authority, punishing the English bowlers and helping his side reach a solid 52 for one by the end of the powerplay. Although England managed to reclaim some ground in the middle overs—highlighted by the prized wicket of Sai Akash for 48—the Indian lineup remained resolute. Captain Majid Magray anchored the innings with a composed and tactical performance, staying at the crease until the final stages to propel India to an imposing total of 207. For England, Alfie Pyle was the standout performer with the ball, returning respectable figures of 2-47.
Bowling Brilliance Seals the Win
Faced with a daunting target of 208, England made a promising start as openers Jonny Gale and Angus Brown put on a 37-run opening partnership. However, the tide turned dramatically once the Indian bowlers found their rhythm and started tightening the screws.
The Indian bowling attack proved clinical and relentless, systematically dismantling the English batting order. Hillary Ahmad Wani was the chief architect of destruction, delivering a sensational spell to claim 4-21. He received expert support from Jayesh Parmar, who captured 3-14, and Ravindra Sante, who chipped in with 2-20. The hosts, unable to build any meaningful partnerships, were eventually bundled out for just 88 runs.
A Series of Highs and Lows
This final encounter underscored the high level of competition throughout the tour. While India finished the series on a high note, they were ultimately playing for pride following England’s consistency in the opening encounters of the series.
The match at the "Home of Cricket" was a fitting conclusion to a spirited international contest, showcasing the immense talent and determination present within the Mixed Disability IT20 cricket community. Despite the series defeat, India’s emphatic final performance at Lord’s will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the highlights of the tour.
