Crunchyroll has announced that Karna the Guardian, a new animated series created in collaboration with YAY! Animation, Zomia, and Ascension, will begin streaming on May 7. The series will launch worldwide with English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubs.
The show was first announced in 2023 and is one of the more notable India-linked animated projects. Crunchyroll has shared the following synopsis:
“Karna lives as an ordinary boy — until the ancient demon Kalimba breaks free and spreads corruption across the world. When the darkness infects his mother, Karna’s powers awaken, revealing his true identity: the Balancer, a Guardian born to restore harmony to the world. To save his mother and stop Kalimba’s chaos, Karna must train to master the power within him — or risk losing everything.”
Here is the Hindi dub voice cast:
- Karna voiced by Aditya Pednekar
- Yamini voiced by Merlyn James
- Novira voiced by Krutika Vispute
- Kalimba voiced by Wareen D’souza
- Kashyap voiced by Shahid Zafar
- Daksh voiced by Vishal Menon
- Devendra voiced by Mayur Yadav
- Daksh’s Staff voiced by Hardik Patel
- Rati voiced by Shaily Dubey
- Tara voiced by Nayana Palekar
- Raj voiced by Jeetendra Dasadiya
Karna the Guardian was originally revealed when Sony Pictures Networks India, through YAY! Animations, announced a slate of seven new animated shows, including projects aimed at older audiences. Karna was part of that lineup.
At the time, the series was described as a 12-episode production with episodes running about 22 minutes each. Tetsuo Hirakawa, known for work on YU-No: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of This World and Seraph of the End, was attached as director. Crunchyroll’s latest announcement does not restate those production details, so it is unclear whether the original episode count and format are unchanged.
