Man seriously injured in vile attack crossing road after ‘altercation with driver’ in Tameside

A man was left seriously injured in a vile attack while crossing the road after getting into a ‘serious altercation with a driver’. Police and paramedics were called to the incident on Oldham Road in Ashton-under-Lyne on Saturday evening (June 13).

The victim, aged in his 50s, was left with serious head injuries after being attacked at around 5.15pm and was rushed to hospital from the scene. He remains there in a serious condition.

Greater Manchester Police said it’s believed he was crossing the road near Keane Street, near the IKEA store, when he was in an altercation with the driver of the vehicle.

Following enquiries completed over night, a man, aged 32, was later arrested on suspicion of assault. He remains in custody for questioning, GMP said.Officers with the force are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward, as they work to establish the full circumstances.

This includes anyone who saw the incident, or has any dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage from between 5 and 5.15pm.
