Marco Penge has taken to social media to announce that he is taking a break from professional golf.
Penge endured a tough week at the PGA Championship, as he missed the 36-hole cut after finding himself at 12-over-par following the opening two rounds.
It came a week after the Englishman opted to withdraw from the Myrtle Beach Classic, later announcing he had undergone recent MRI scans on health issues that have impacted him since the end of last year.
“Unfortunately, I have had a recurring problem with my ear/neck/nervous system since I had a viral infection back in November last year,” he said ahead of the second major of the season.
“Last week, I decided enough was enough after getting another sinus infection and vertigo symptoms. I proceeded with an MRI scan on my brain head and neck and got the results back today…
“Thankfully, the images were great, and so a few of the doubts I have had have gone away, which is a big relief. I’m battling to get fully fit again, and hopefully that’s not too far away.

“Thank you for your support as always! Looking forward to playing my second PGA Championship this week.” Despite the positive update, Penge has opted to take action one week on.
In a statement to his followers on Sunday evening, the PGA Tour star confirmed the planned break, while also offering his congratulations to winner, Aaron Rai.
“This week didn’t go to the way I wanted to but that’s golf,” he wrote. “Moving forward, I have decided that I am going to take some time off to get my health back to where it needs to be. Thank you for your support as always! I’ll be back soon!”
It comes five months into Penge’s maiden year on the PGA Tour, following a breakthrough season on the DP World Tour last campaign.
In 2025, the Englishman won three times on the Wentworth-based circuit, and battled Rory McIlroy for the Race to Dubai crown right down to the wire.
His hopes of pipping McIlroy to the season-long title were hampered during the DP World Tour playoffs, where his battles with a viral illness began. He has played 11 times this season, with his best showing a tied-fourth finish at the Valspar Championship in March.
