Police issue update on Piccadilly Gardens incident as cordon put in place

Police Cordons Lifted in Manchester City Centre After Piccadilly Gardens Emergency Response

A major police presence in Manchester city centre on Tuesday night prompted concern among residents and commuters, but authorities have confirmed that the incident was not criminal in nature.

Emergency services descended on Piccadilly Gardens at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, leading to the establishment of a large police cordon that restricted access to a popular row of shops and restaurants.

The taped-off area encompassed several high-profile businesses, including McDonald’s, Wingstop, Boots, and Five Guys. Bystanders reported seeing multiple police officers and security personnel stationed behind the cordon throughout the evening as the scene was managed.

While the sudden heavy police presence sparked initial speculation regarding public safety in the busy hub, Greater Manchester Police issued an update on Wednesday morning to clarify the situation.

According to a police spokesperson, the emergency response was triggered after a male was found suffering from an injury. Following an investigation into the circumstances, officers have confirmed that the incident involved an individual with a pre-existing medical issue who had suffered a recurrence of that injury.

Crucially, the force emphasized that there was “no third-party involvement” and that no crime had been committed. The cordon has since been lifted, and the businesses in the area have returned to normal operations.
